Description
Stob Dearg, translating as ‘Red Point’ is the tallest and most instantly recognisable peak in the Buachaille Etive Mor group. It reaches a magnificent 1022 metres and the central buttress is almost perfectly triangular when viewed from the east. The mountain is volcanic in origin and composed from a bottom layer of andesite lava overlain with rhyolite ash flows. This combination is what makes the mountains of Glen Etive and Glen Coe so visually striking and so challenging to climb.
