Description
Carrick-a-Rede is an small island off Antrim’s north coast and is accessed by a 30m high rope bridge. The gap the bridge spans was once the vent of a volcano that has long since eroded away. When the volcano erupted basalt magma poured out over chalk beds, which can be seen at the cliff’s foot. Once the haunt of fishermen hoping to catch the North Atlantic salmon today the site is in the care of the National Trust.
