Description
Cadair Idris is by no means the highest of Snowdonia’s mountains, but its prepossessing shape dominates the landscape to the south of Dolgellau. The peak is primarily composed of Ordovician igneous rocks that bear the scars of glacial erosion. Cadair Idris, or ‘The Chair of Idris’ takes its name from a legendary warrior poet. The sheer walls of Penygadair, the highest peak in the range at 893 metres, reflect in the still waters of Llyn y Gadair.
