Description
Saucer-shaped lenticular clouds hover over the Sound of Taransay, next to Luskentyre (Losgaintir) on Harris’s west coast. The cloud type is stratocumulus lenticularis and they tend to form over hills and mountains because the peaks force warm air upwards, whereupon it cools and condenses into cloud. This formation method is referred to as orographic.
