Description

Knobbly protuberances in the Permian sandstone at Cleiteadh nan Sgarbh, on Arran’s west coast, are caused by layers of weaker material being eroded away to reveal harder deposits.  This harder material contains a higher percentage of quartz than the surrounding rock and this is what makes it more resistant to wave erosion.
