Description
Alport Dale is tucked between the Derwent and Woodlands valleys in north Derbyshire. In the upper reaches of the valley there are cliffs that rise for approximately 80 metres comprised from layers of sandstone and shale strata known as the Alport Castles. These beds are unstable and the whole area suffered a massive landslip that created The Tower, an impressive formation that counts as a hill in its own right.
