At an exposed location 538 metres above sea level, sandstone Back Tor on Derwent Edge sits right on the county boundary between Derbyshire and South Yorkshire, and is witness to some turbulent weather, even in summer. Looking into the distance in the direction of Howden Moor a dark cloud, promising a torrential downpour, approaches at an alarming speed.
