Description

Breathtakingly vivid magenta light just prior to sunrise reflects off the wet dolerite slabs that form Harkess Rocks at the northern end of Bamburgh beach.  The smooth dark igneous rock, typical of this stretch of the Northumberland coast, is actually part of the Great Whin Sill formation that continues inland as far as Cumbria.
