Description

Patterns in the dunes at Forvie National Nature Reserve, near Aberdeen, revealed by raking afternoon light.  This is an active dune complex that shifts in response to both the wind and the tide.  Marram (Ammophila arenaria) roots help to stabilise the sand and this detail iilustrates the transition zone between the wave-lapped shore and the fixed dunes.
