Description

Hazel (Corylus avellana) was one of the key species to be coppiced historically in Ecclesall Woods, Sheffield. The coppiced poles or ‘small wood’ can be made into hurdles, baskets and many other household items. Coppicing encourges the growth of more stems and prolongs hazel’s lifespan from eighty to two hundred plus years.
