Description

Hazel (Corylus avellana) growing in Ecclesall Woods in Sheffield, South Yokshire. Hazel is monoecious, having both male and female flowers on the same plant. Long and dangling male catkins are held on bare branches, as leaves would pose an obstacle to the wind-borne pollination process.
