Description
At 859m Caisteal Abhail is the second highest of Arran’s mountains and beyond it lies the Kilbrannan Sound, separating the island from the mainland. Below the craggy summit Ceum na Caillich or ‘The Witch’s Step’, a deep gash in the ridge, is clearly seen. In combination with adjacent peaks Caisteal Abhail is said to resemble a recumbent figure, hence why it is referred to as ‘The Sleeping Warrior’.
