Description
A paved footpath leads from Hook’s Carr to the popular eastern end of Stanage Edge over wet moorland. The mix of sedges rushes and grasses, glowing gold in the autumn sunshine, is known as rush pasture and grows in the damp soil below the edge. As the terrain ascends and the ground becomes drier russet coloured brackens (Pteridium aquilinum) dominate, making it easy to see where the soil type changes.
