Description
On Kinder Scout’s southern flank are a scattered group of rocks known as the Woolpacks, on account of them apparently being shaped like the old fashioned method of wool packing. These odd sandstone outcrops, blasted by the bitter mountain weather and cut into beguiling forms, are a key part of Derbyshire’s Dark Peak landscape. One tor is known at the Moat Stone because it sits in its own pool of peat-soaked waters, which on this winter’s afternoon are trapped under a thick layer of ice.
