Description
Wych elm (Ulmus glabra) is actually fairly common in Ecclesall Woods, Sheffield, it is, however, easily missed. Due to the effects of Dutch Elm Disease these elms rarely make large trees, instead they often form smaller, shrubby, multistem trees, which are easily mistaken for hazel. Wych elm can be distinguised by leaves bearing ‘horns’ in addition to the usual pointed leaf tip.
