Description
Looking along Stanage Edge in Derbyshire, as it is snakes away to the northwest. At 6.5km it is the longest inland escarpment in England and standing on the edge itself it is impossible to appreciate its full extent. Here Millstone Grit buttresses stand proud, often practically separated from the edge by deep crevices caused by erosion. The coarse gritty fragments of feldspar and quartz that form this type of sandstone are easily distinguished in the late afternoon light.
